ANTIPAROS ISLAND
Antiparos is a small, unspoilt island of outstanding natural beauty
and one of the most desirable Greek islands for quite, stylish family
living. The people are friendly and the island has an air of understated
elegance.
It is about 12 km long by 6 km wide with a permanent population of some
800, the majority of which live in the village that takes the name of
the island. Antiparos had a thriving pre-classical community, there is
not much evidence of Greek classical civilization, but there is a Venetian
fort near the square at the top of the village that dates from the 15th
century.
Antiparos has a temperate climate. The winters are mild, with temperatures
rarely falling below freezing. The summers tend to be cool, influenced
by the winds (the Meltemia) typical of the central Aegean that blow predominantly
in August. The average temperature for the year is 18.5C (average winter
temperature 12C and average summer temperature 25C). The average sea temperatures
are: February 15C, May 18C, August 24C and November 19C.
St Georges Bay where the Villa is situated, is known for its exceptional
natural beauty, spectacular views and its sheltered position. Fifteen
years ago there was only a handful of villas in the Bay and a couple of
farms. Today, the farms remain and there are about 50 villas and a couple
of traditional tavernas. Immediately across the Bay and in front of the
Villa is the uninhabited island of Despotico.
